Transforming the Health of Rural Communities, One Program at a Time.

Arizona Complete Health (formerly Cenpatico IC) deeply understands that not only is it important to invest in largly-recognized efforts supporting individual health, but also that investing in rural communities and grass root efforts is an essential part of health for all. Their community re-investment efforts have included many partnerships that serve a cross section of populations, providing a variety of local supports and opportunities: including housing, workforce development, youth activities, essential trainings, and food access support.

We wanted to highlight, and thank Arizona Complete Health, for the important work they are doing throughout the state. Check out these programs launched in Bisbee and Clifton:

Step Up Bisbee:

Step-Up Bisbee/NACO (SUBN) is a 100% volunteer-led, local organization dedicated to keeping families living in their homes, despite any physical and financial challenges they may face. This non-profit organization provides essential structural and safety repairs for residents who are low-income, elderly, or have a disability.

The project has expanded from a one-day build effort to providing year-round repairs for those in critical need. With the support of funds provided from AzCH, Step-Up Bisbee has supported completion of well over 51 home repairs this year, in addition to essential repairs to non-profit social service buildings, such as the Bisbee Community Y Thrift Store/transitional housing, the Verhelst Recovery House, as well as several aging churches.

As in many older, rural communities across the US, affordable housing stock is not being replenished and affordable housing is becoming an increasing concern. Understanding that housing is critical to individual health, since 2015, AzCH has donated more than $40,000 to support the efforts of SUBN, providing construction materials necessary for the volunteers to complete these projects.

SUBN truly is living our mission of ‘transforming the health of the community, one person at a time,’ and by keeping families in their community. They exemplify want it means to ‘Live Local’.

Clifton Community Gardens:

The community of Clifton, located in Greenlee County, has a very special volunteer community garden project developed by the Local nonprofit SUBN and supported by AzCH reinvestment funds.

This isn’t just another community garden: in addition to well over 18 plots and multiple creative sites, the community holds events such as the regular Farmers Markets, October Pumpkin Patch, and Christmas Eve Luminarias. This has been a labor of love that continues to increase in size and use. Truly an important community resource used by numerous individuals, families and local groups.
