Food is at the center of our daily lives, and agriculture and food production are major drivers of Arizona’s economy.

Supporting local farmers, ranchers, and food entrepreneurs is critical in order to foster food-based economic development and expand access to affordable, fresh, and local food to all Arizonans.

Our portfolio of food initiatives demonstrates the connection between food and health, and works to create prosperity in urban and rural settings.

Connecting People to Healthy Local Food

Good Food Finder

Good Food Finder AZ is Arizona’s online directory of local foods, serving as a hub where you and institutional food buyers alike can discover and contact Arizona’s farmers and food producers. This free resource shortens food supply chains and improves access to local production. Additionally, the Good Food Finder Resources pages navigate users to food education opportunities, food access programs, and new market opportunities.

Growing Together

We host events throughout the year to strengthen Arizona's local food system and connect those working in our food economy.

A Place At The Table

Young Food Entrepreneurs

There is opportunity to help youth transition from agricultural record-keepers into food businesses by introducing them to entrepreneurship. To meet this need, Local First Arizona Foundation is piloting workshops and field trips to connect current high school youth with successful young food entrepreneurs and facilitated interactive activities in developing business plans.

Jeff Malkoon shares the story of his family's arrival in Arizona and how he founded a business, PB Americano, to make the world a better place.

Tamara Stanger shares her experience as a young woman growing up in a small mining town in Utah and how she found herself celebrating the desert through food and culinary excellence.

Healthy Nutrition for Kids

While simultaneously increasing the availability of local food, our work continued to educate families. These videos feature local hip-hop talent, Myrlin Days, to talk about the importance of healthy eating. Called ‘Snack Time’, the videos are out of production and available for circulation. Here’s Snack Time with Myrlin!

Community Partnerships

Local First Arizona Foundation staff hold leadership positions in food policy groups and networks across the state in order to influence policy, share successful models, and connect Arizonans to existing resources.
